Autism Assessments for Adults
Adult autism assessments are respectful, collaborative, and neuro-affirming. We understand that adults often seek assessment for a variety of reasons including self-understanding, access to supports (e.g. NDIS or workplace adjustments), or exploring long-standing experiences that may not have previously been recognised or validated.
We take a holistic and strengths-based approach to understand each individual’s unique profile, focusing not only on diagnostic criteria but also on lived experience, identity, and personal goals.

Neuro-Affirming and Strength-Based Approach
Our assessments recognise neurodiversity as a natural variation of human experience. We do not pathologise difference—instead, we focus on understanding how your brain works, how you experience the world, and what supports may help you thrive.
We create a supportive, inclusive space where clients feel respected, understood, and involved in the process. We acknowledge the vulnerability that often comes with seeking assessment in adulthood and ensure your voice is central throughout.

What’s Involved in an Adult Autism Assessment?
1. Initial Consultation
We begin with a detailed intake session to explore your developmental background, current concerns, social and emotional experiences, education and employment history, mental health, and everyday functioning. This session also gives space to talk about what has led you to seek assessment at this point in your life.

2. Adult Interview and Self-Report Measures
You’ll participate in a semi-structured clinical interview and complete standardised self-report tools. These explore areas such as:
-
Social communication
-
Sensory experiences
-
Emotional regulation
-
Executive functioning
-
Routines and preferences
-
Personal identity and self-understanding

3. Clinical Observation and Standardised Tools
We use gold-standard diagnostic instruments and validated tools to support the assessment process. These may include:
-
Autism-specific diagnostic measures
-
Adaptive functioning assessments
-
Behavioural and cognitive screeners
-
Optional screening for co-occurring conditions

4. Third-Party Questionnaires (Optional)
Where relevant, we may ask permission to gather collateral information from people who know you well (e.g. partner, family member, or a past educator). This helps build a fuller picture of your experiences across different settings and stages of life.

5. Functional Capacity Assessment (for NDIS Applications)
If you are seeking support through the NDIS, we can complete a functional assessment to identify how autism characteristics impact your daily functioning across home, work, and community life. This includes statements aligned with NDIS access or plan review requirements.

Detailed Report and Recommendations
You will receive a comprehensive diagnostic report (25+ pages) that includes:
-
Summary of developmental and personal history
-
Diagnostic conclusions (if applicable)
-
Descriptions of your strengths and challenges
-
Functional capacity profile (if required)
-
Your personal voice and perspective
-
Tailored recommendations for work, daily life, relationships, therapy, or study

Our reports are written in clear, accessible language to support shared understanding across systems—whether you choose to share it with health professionals, employers, the NDIS, or keep it for personal insight.

Empowerment Through Understanding
Whether you are seeking clarity, closure, support, or self-acceptance, our goal is to offer a process that is validating and meaningful. An autism diagnosis in adulthood can help you reframe your life experiences and open doors to the support and accommodations you may need to live more authentically.
